Wake Up Sid is a romance and relationship oriented movie set in Mumbai.

Siddharth Mehra (Ranbir Kapoor) has just bid farewell to college and is living a rather aimless existence. With no place to get to in a hurry, Sid lives with his parents Ram Mehra (Anupam Kher) and Sarita (Supriya Pathak). He spends his time with his buddies Rishi (Namit Das), Laxmi (Shikha Talsania) and XBOX 360.

And into this loafer’s paradise enters Aisha Bannerjee (Konkana Sen Sharma). And she is a woman who knows exactly where is going. Aisha moves to Mumbai from Kolkata to take up a job as a writer for the magazine Mumbai Beat.

She strikes up a friendship with Sid and he helps her settle down in the city. And soon a need for change comes calling and it’s time for Sid to answer its call.

The story is an exploration of Sid and Aisha’s relationship dynamics as well as Sid waking up to the life he is living.

Characters:

Wake Up Sid Ranbir Kapoor: Sidharth Mehra
That’s me! Well, Sidharth Mehra really but everyone calls me Sid. I’m just a regular guy, I guess. I just finished college and have no idea what the heck I’m doing next. No one told me that I had to have a plan, so I never made one! If you ask me, the world would be a much better place if we all just slowed down and learnt to take it easy sometimes. That’s kind of what I’m doing these days… just taking it easy… hanging with my buddies, watching TV, eating, sleeping, dreaming… that sort of thing, you know?

Konkona Sen Sharma: Aisha Bannerjee
God, there’s so much to say about Aisha… She’s new to Mumbai, and completely infatuated with the city. She left everyone and everything she knew in Kolkata to go after her dream of becoming a writer for this cool urban magazine called Mumbai Beat. She’s creative, ambitious, focused, driven, brave… phew, basically everything I’m not!

Anupam Kher: Ram Mehra
Dad and I have nothing in common, really. He owns a company that manufactures bathroom fittings. Their speciality: these horrific gadgets called Flower Showers! They’re exactly what they sound like-showers that look like flowers. I wish I was kidding, but I’m not. And now, he wants me to join the company! How am I going to get out of this one?

Supriya Pathak: Sarita
Mom has three obsessions: Watching TV serials, nagging me, and trying to learn English. I don’t know which one bothers me more! But she’s sweet, and always gives me money, even when dad tells her not to. And her Rajma Chawal is to die for!

Namit Das: Rishi
Rishi and I have been buddies since KG, and he hasn’t changed one bit. He’s always in love and always getting his heart broken. His current “true love” is Neha. They met on the first day of college, and have been obnoxiously stuck at the hip ever since. I don’t get this ‘love’ business at all! Quite frankly, I feel like punching him in the face when he gets all mushy. We’ve had some great times together though.

Shikha Talsania: Laxmi
Laxmi is one of my best friends, though her best friend is food! I don’t think I’ve ever seen her not eating. I swear! She’s either munching on something, or talking about eating, or planning her next meal… how she manages to find time to study and top our class every year, I have no idea!

Wake Up Sid Synopsis

This is the story of Sidharth Mehra (Ranbir Kapoor), a lazy, unmotivated slacker from Mumbai whose life undergoes a series of changes after taking his final year college exams. Sid’s world is breezy, carefree, and without any true responsibilities. The most important elements in his life are his friends, his camera, his car, and his X-box 360.

Sid thrives around his two best friends, Rishi (Namit Das) and Laxmi (Shikha Talsania), very rarely communicates with his mother Sarita (Supriya Pathak) and takes his father Ram Mehra (Anupam Kher), and all his hard earned wealth for granted. Despite all these traits, Sid is an honest boy; sweet, funny, and above all, a good friend. Aisha Bannerjee (Konkona Sen Sharma), an aspiring writer from Calcutta, learns this soon enough when her path crosses with Sid’s on her first day in Bombay, Ambitious, well-read, and driven, Aisha has come to Bombay to realize her dreams as a writer. Despite their contrasting personalities. Sid becomes Aisha’s first friend in the city.

As Aisha sets up her life in Bombay, with the help of Sid and his gang, Sid allows for time to fly by over long drives, parties that stretch well into dawn, and endless hours doing absolutely nothing. But summers vary rarely dull these days and Sid’s summer is no different. A series of circumstances and events compel him to take stock of his life and take a hard look at himself. Will he, at some point figure out what he’s supposed to be doing with his life?

Acid Factory Hindi Movie 2009
Reviews :

Acid Factory is about a group of characters whose sense of past has vanished in a haze of coma like they have woken up from sleep only to discover that reality could be a figment of their imagination.

Their sense of right or wrong is heightened by this state of complete distrust and self-righteousness. As the story unravels through the hazy mist of confusion confounded by loss of memory, the audience is just shown the tip of the iceberg.

It is a high-octane thriller where every second counts and every flash of your past is either a step towards realization of the true self or the horror of the discovery of who you really are.

And then the games begin as our characters start to create stories just so that they can stay in the right but what if a roomful of people realize that the majority are evil?  Wouldn’t your instinct to survive dictate you to renounce yourself to evil?

Acid Factory plays out as a thriller – a morality play on the inside and a cat and mouse chase on the outside

Our memory is the source of all emotions. It is also the source of our guilt. What if a killer would wake up one day with his memory erased? Would his crimes cease to exits? What if an innocent wakes up one with his memory erased and perceives himself to be a criminal? Would that change his perception of reality?

Faltering memory continually alters the constancy of truth. Short term memory loss denies you of an identity throwing you into an abyss of excruciating agony.

EXPECTATIONS

A wonderful track record over the years has proven that Sanjay Gupta films have traditionally boasted of good music. Whether it is his productions or directorial outings, he has time and again impressed with his music. Soundtrack of most of his films is techno-heavy and one expects nothing different from the music of this Suparn Verma directed film that again sees multiple composers and lyricists coming together to do the job.

MUSIC

Opening notes of ‘Yeh Jism’ pave the way for a dark outing to follow. Since Acid Factory has a dark and mysterious storyline to it, this Virag Mishra written song too follows the same route. On listening to it carefully, one gets closer to the film’s plot. While first 100 seconds have singer Raaj going ahead with his rendition with minimal instruments in the background, it’s the club mood which develops soon after that takes the song to a different level altogether. Composer Shamir Tandon does well in keeping the sanctity of the song intact while not straying away from the theme. Anchal Datta Bhatia, who had earlier impressed in Dus Kahaniyaan, makes a rather belated appearance in ‘Yeh Jism’ and adds on to the pop flavour of the song which also appears in a bona fide ‘Club Mix’ version. Expect this one to make it to the DJ’s countdown.

A number which is set as a cabaret from the 50s/60s with modern day arrangements, ‘Khatti Meethi’ is the next to come. With high overtones of sensuality dripping throughout this song which is composed, sung as well as written (along with Amitabh Bhattacharya) by Manasi Scott, ‘Khatti Meethi’ is a number that takes time to grow. Though the basic rhythm belongs to the era gone by, its modern day treatment enhanced by the generous use of English lyrics which makes it fit into in contemporary times as well. One waits to see how it turns out after picturisation since its prospects will largely depend upon that.

Remember the chartbuster number ‘Jab Andhera Hota Hai’ from Rajesh Khanna starrer Raja Rani? The same number is reproduced by Gourov Das Gupta and is presented in a modern day avtar with some slight changes being incorporated, especially during the initial portions. Anchal Datta Bhatia, Saptak Bhattacharya and Shweta Vijay get together for this Shellee written track that moves fast and has been given a sonic touch. However, the final effect isn’t as terrific as one would have expected, especially with modern day gadgetry and equipments available. In the quest of keeping the original feel intact with a shade of modern day feel to it, there is something that one does feel is amiss. Thankfully, there is a ‘remix version’ which does make a better impact.

The song that impresses most after ‘Yeh Jism’ is Vasundhara Das sung ‘Kone Kone Mein’. Yet again, this is one track that sticks to the dark-n-intriguing theme of the film. Bappa Lahiri gets it just right to keep the pacing perfect for this Virag Mishra written number. Moreover, there is a distinct 80s pop feel to ‘Kone Kone Mein’ which is enabled due to some good mix of old and new sound that gives it further edge. The element of mystery is woven throughout the song’s duration, courtesy Virag’s lyrics and one looks forward to see how the song, which later also appears in an good ‘Lounge Kilogram Mix’ version, is incorporated in the film.

A techno heavy song comes next in the form of ‘Raftaar’ which appears to be made for the chase sequences in the film. It’s the ‘Yeh Jism’ team of composer Shamir Tandon, lyricist Virag Mishra and singers Anchal Datta Bhatia and Raaj who are entrusted with the responsibility of making ‘Raftaar’. Lyrically this song isn’t as solid as its predecessor but from sheer pace perspective, it should add zing to the narrative.

The album ends with ‘Nothing Else Will Do’ which is composed and sung by Ranjit Barot. An English track which comes with a thump and goes well with the image of macho characters that one gets to see in Sanjay Gupta films, ‘Nothing Else Will Do’ should aid the narrative if played in the background with the six leading men in their dare devilry act.

OVERALL

Acid Factory is primarily made of theme tracks rather than conventional songs that one gets to hear in core Bollywood films. Don’t expect a number to pop up which you would start humming on your way to office or in the college canteen. These are the kind of songs, especially ‘Yeh Jism’ and ‘Kone Kone Mein’, which start becoming much more meaningful when seen with the film’s storyline.

Love Ka Tadka Love Ka Taddka is a feel good romantic comedy aimed at both the mass and class audience. The concept has been selected after a lot of research. At cinema today, we firmly believe that the film viewing audience is today ready to accept a good concept if the look, feel the acting and the treatment is right.

As the title suggests, the film essentially deals with love and the various spices or shades it has. Our story beings with a romantic track between Aditya played by Sammir Dattani and Sheetal played by Nauhid Cyrusi. Exaggerated and overtly emotional father played by Veteran Satish Kaushik takes the humor to another level. And the colourful and varied characters in the film who stay in the same society are a cause of complete madness. This tongue in cheek comedy has all ingredients required to cook up a fun film.

The story begins with Aditya, a struggling, middle class boy who makes ends meet working in an ‘Easy Finance’ as an executive. Aditya’s life revolves around his work, friend Vicky and his corrupt boss, till he accidentally bumps into pretty Sheetal who keeps mistaking him for a Romeo. Every time Aditya tries to follow his friend Vicky’s advice and prove his innocence, he only ends up creating a bigger misunderstanding. In this process, he ends up falling in love with her. And eventually they end up getting married. But here our story does not end with – they lived happily ever after.

On the contrary, the story starts getting juicer. Out of fear of losing Sheetal, Aditya had lied that he is as a Manager and lives in a cool condominium. Naturally, the girl is lived at entering a chawl after marriage. But finally, they both manage to pool in money to buy an apartment. To add to their worries, Sheetal’s dad insists on coming to stay with her. They evade him and make him stay with Vicky till they move into their new house. But when they go to buy their new house, they run short on funds and Vicky ends up cutting a deal where he promises to pay balance money in a year or lose the amount they have given to the owner. Just when they think all their financial woes are over, and are about to inter their new house, they realize they are going to be moving in a strictly vegetarian society.

Both being non-veg, find it difficult to digest the fact, but have no choice. The real cat and mouse game begins when the Sheetal’s father who is strictly an anti vegetarian, comes in to stay with them. He is not exactly happy with his son in law, so not to upset him any further, Sheetal and Adi do not reveal to him that the society being pure vegetarian. The real fun begins when the two have to smuggle the banned food items into the house and they keep the balancing act between the father and the society members.

This pure vegetarian story with a ‘tadka’ of little tangy and a slightly spicy story will end up leaving a sweet taste and a smile on your faces.
